What is Access to Work Funding?

Access to Work is a valuable resource designed to support individuals with physical or mental health conditions or disabilities, aiding in their ability to enter or remain in the workforce.

The assistance provided through Access to Work is tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual, offering various forms of support, including:

  • Grants to cover the costs of practical support required for work
  • Assistance with managing mental health in the workplace
  • Funding for communication support during job interviews

Practical support with work-related tasks can encompass a range of provisions, such as:

  • Acquisition of specialised equipment and assistive software
  • Engagement of support workers, such as British Sign Language (BSL) interpreters, job coaches, or travel companions
  • Coverage of transportation expenses if public transport is inaccessible
  • Adaptations to vehicles to facilitate transportation to work
  • Modifications to the physical workspace, including both traditional workplaces and home offices

It's important to note that eligibility for Access to Work support is not dependent on income level, and receiving a grant will not impact other benefits.

Additionally, while some costs may need to be initially covered by either the individual or their employer, reimbursement can be sought afterward. Access to Work serves as a crucial lifeline for individuals seeking to overcome barriers to employment, ensuring equal access and opportunities in the workplace.
